‘Eagle’ flies in the West

The stocks of the Allwood Stud Farm based sire FLY LIKE AN EAGLE were given a terrific boost with the performances of his progeny during August.

Undoubtedly the highlight was the win in the fastest heat of the Westbred Classic at Gloucester Park by the FLY LIKE AN EAGLE two-year-old colt Noble Thorondor (1:58.1), who notched his fourth success for the season.

Another FLY LIKE AN EAGLE to win at the Perth headquarters’ track was Skylord, who came from near last to post his 10th win and send his stake earnings to beyond $175,000.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE was also credited with three ‘new’ winners in the three-year-olds Miss Knowall (Northam) and Weona Eagle (Launceston) and the four-year-old Flying Coppa (Central Wheatbelt) and the repeat winner The Mercenary (Northam).

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE’s richest offspring, Wonderful To Fly ($740,000), took the first step to her much awaited comeback to racing when she won a trial at Pinjarra on August 28. After settling down a conspicuous last, the five-year-old mare looped the field in the last lap to win effortlessly.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE has sired 51 individual winners to date this season and progeny earnings of $830,000.

The Allwood Stud owned FOLLOW THE STARS sired winners in four different States last month. The list included the Gloucester Park winner Follow Rocknroll, the WA provincial winners Follow The Ark, Path Of Gold and Ellucifer, Spun Silver (Cranbourne), Stormboy Star (Albion Park and Redcliffe) and Per Ardua Ad Astra (Port Pirie).

FOLLOW THE STARS has left 46 winners for $750,000 in progeny earnings this season.

The loss of ROCK N ROLL WORLD to breeders was emphasized with the Rocknroll Hanover horse producing eight individual winners for August.

The haul included a ‘new’ two-year-old winner in Cassini Belle and seven three-year-olds in Queenie Daisy, Worlds Above, Diamond World, Maximum Rock, Allwoods Chevron, State My Case and Rox The World.

From only two racing crops ROCK N ROLL WORLD has sired 35 winners from 67 starters and progeny winnings of almost $800,000.

Allwood Stud bred an impressive 13 individual winners for the month. They were Follow Rocknroll, Queenie Daisy, Worlds Above, Diamond World, Maximum Rock, Follow The Ark, Allwoods Chevron, State My Case, Ellucifer, Rox The World, Path Of Gold, Flying Coppa and Per Ardua Ad Astra.
