The Allwood Stud stallion FLY LIKE AN EAGLE, the former NZ 2YO of the Year and whose first WA crop are currently two-year-olds, provided the quinella pair, Valhalla Miss and Extraordinary Mary, in the Group 1 $100,000 APG 2YO Fillies Sales Classic Final at Gloucester Park.
Valhalla Miss, who was bred, raised and sold by Allwood Stud, led from go to whoa in a 1:58.3 rate over 1730 metres with the closing 800 in 58.1. She has won twice from three attempts for $67,310 in stakes.
Out of the Northern Luck mare Teen Queen Lombo (1:57.1), Valhalla Miss was sold for $17,500 to Linda and Barry Hamilton at the 2020 APG Perth sale. The mare has left four winners from five foals including the Group 1 winner Allamerican Queen 1:58.3 (winner of $120,969).
Half Kidding (by FOLLOW THE STARS) ran third.
Extraordinary Mary (1:58.3) and Valhalla Miss (1:59.9) both won heats of the Classic ten days earlier at Gloucester Park. The pair were both bred by Allwood Stud, who quinellaed the 2YO Fillies’ Classic Final.
Tomlous Jambo (by FLY LIKE AN EAGLE), who finished second in the $100,000 colts and geldings’ Final, was also bred by Allwood Stud.
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE has already sired left five individual two-year-old winners this year and is clearly the leading sire in this field. Other winners have been the Allwood Stud bred and owned Eagle Royalty (1:57.3), a winner at Gloucester Park and Albany, Wonderful To Fly (1:56.7, Gloucester Park) and the 1:57.9 Pinjarra winner Be Home Soon.
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE was also represented by the Bathurst three-year-old winner Eagle Commander (1:57.4), now the winner of seven races.
Not to be outdone, FOLLOW THE STARS led in winners in four different States during February. They included the two-year-old winners Bushwacked (1:56.9) and the Allwood bred and owned Star Aspiration, the three-year-old Star Of Willoughby (1:56.8, Gloucester Park) and the four-year-olds Star Of The Class (1:59.7), Startup and Nightwatch Star.
Allwood Stud bred nine individual winners in February. Other stud winners were Back In Twenty (1:58.5, Gloucester Park), Make It Happen (Narrogin and Northam) and the North American winner Lord Willoughby (1:52.6).
