Bonny FLY LIKE AN EAGLE filly Wonderful To Fly firmly established herself as the top WA two-year-old filly of the season when she won the Group 1 $100,000 Allwood Stud Farm Westbred Classic at Gloucester Park.

It was her third success on end, and she soundly defeated the best two-year-olds in the State in the Westbred after being required to overcome a difficult barrier draw and a torrid passage.

In 11 starts Wonderful To Fly has now won six and been three times placed for $116,424 in stakes. One week earlier she captured the $25,000 Westsired Classic beating the FOLLOW THE STARS pair, Bonstar and See The World.

The $25,000 Westsired Classic for the two-year-old colts proved a triumph for Allwood Stud as the breeders of the first three placegetters – Follow The Music (by FOLLOW THE STARS) first, Tomlous Jambo (by FLY LIKE AN EAGLE) second and Hokulani (by FOLLOW THE STARS) third.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE, who is ranked third on the national two-year-old sires’ list behind Bettor’s Delight and Captaintreacherous, was also represented by another two-year-old winner in Hope (1:59.2) and the four-year-old Heres Your Bonus (1:55.7).

FOLLOW THE STARS left 14 individual winners in June including nine three-year-olds. They included the $25,000 Westsired 3YO Classic winner Black Jack Baby (1;58.9), the Gloucester Park winners Chance Eclipse (1:55) and Make It Quick (1:59.2), Star Of Willoughby (1:59.7), Per Ardua Ad Astra (1:59), Our Holla Star (Globe Derby Park twice), Star For Me, Flash Mob and Cluster Star.

Winners from FOLLOW THE STARS’ first crop have been The Stars Above (Gloucester Park, 1:56.2), Fiord (1:59.2), Star In Art and Star Of Madonna.

On My Oath, bred and raised by Allwood Stud, has found Victoria to be a happy hunting ground. The gelding, who is undefeated in four starts at the Victorian provincials to date, was one of 14 individual winners of 17 races bred by Allwood Stud in June.

Other Allwood-bred winners included the Gloucester Park winners Back In Twenty (1:57.9) and The Righteous and the three-year-olds Machnificent (1:59.7) and Bettor Move Along (1:59.7).

Smooth Rye, a four-year-old mare owned by Allwood Stud, won at Gloucester Park in a career-best 1:56.7 and has now won five of her last six outings.
